Searching in Vain for a Home I am searching in vain for a home Far forever it seems I must roam ever distant, it seems, from the luck and the means I am searching in vain for a home Far from visions once happy in bed and the soul who’d go looking for bread far from grace and calamity blade and humanity searching in vain for a home Sometimes, I will fall apart Then, to the earth, I will fall Teardrops dripping from my heart Then, to the One, I will call And then brave I can be once again for the grey which is hiding an end and the thin hope of rest in a bed for the blessed I am searching in vain for a home

When Daylight Comes There used to be something in our minds There used to be hope for all the fear we have inside When daylight comes we will find the strength we need to fly away far from fear and sorrow When tomorrow comes, we will fly There used to be something to our dreams There used to be a question asking what it all could mean When daylight comes we will find the love we need to fly away far from fear and sorrow When tomorrow comes, we will fly When daylight comes we’ll be far from sorrow When daylight comes we will be tomorrow There used to be something to our love There used to be a friendship with whatever is above When daylight comes we will find the strength we need to fly away far from fear and sorrow When tomorrow comes, we will fly

Time 03:13
Time Time will heal us all Time will mend a broken knee Time will cure a fall Time will bring love between you and me Time will awaken all that is truth but then time is the bearer of lies Time will awaken the love that I see in your eyes Time will steer us all far from the beacon of broken dreams Time will gently call Time will reveal all that is mystery Time will awaken all that is good but then time is the mother of cries Time will awaken the love that I see in your eyes Oh like the night ever holding light I've got time to give Oh like the toll living in the soul I've got life and love to give Time will make amends Time will judge our sense of trust Time will steal out friends Time will reveal those who are true to us Time will acquaint us with grief and despair but then time is a stranger who's wise Time will awaken the love that I see in your eyes

Waves 03:23
Waves The waves tumble over at night and disappear quite near the end A calm cannot keep up a motion There has to be motion again And I know that they’ll always be I can see them come cascading down Now they’re dancing around my feet Centuries shape a shoreline I hope they don’t get too ahead Now you may say it’s no wonder the waves took me out instead to the sea, I can see a new horizon before me They can call, I will understand You can touch them in a dream if you can You have taken my body You have cleansed my soul Now you lay down before me as I walk along the shore And that is why I still love you You lead me out once more Touch and take my feelings I can’t take much any more In the sea, I can see a new horizon unfolding In your words, I will understand I will touch you in a dream if I can

about

“Russia” was written and recorded in 2003 while I was living in a five-storey Annex walkup on St. George, two blocks up from Bloor in U of T’s frat house district, meaning there were many nights when, as I was writing and/or recording, some university pledge was pyrotechnically puking up cheap draft beer just feet from my window. It was regularly crazy-making, but so was the equipment I was using. Having just begun to recover from a divorce, a resulting financial enema and a metabolic shutdown that, according to doctors, should have killed me, I scraped together an outmoded Roland D-10 keyboard, a Roland sound module from my ever-generous brother and a basic version of MicroLogic AV software, and began laying down notes. (Everything recorded for “Russia” was played note for note, drums included, meaning no sequences or loops were used.)

Although I never had the money to buy the equipment needed to record vocals for “Russia,” most of the album is instrumental anyway (with “Six Days” being my favorite piece). Where songs have vocals, I scored what I believe are easily discernible melody lines and provided lyrics.
