about
This is my version of Caitlin Mathews’ “Song of the Exile,” written for Jerry Bruckheimer’s 2004 epic “King Arthur” and performed by actress Dawn Bradfield as the character Vanora in a tavern scene where Arthur’s knights are relaxing after what they believe has been their last service to Rome. In the movie, there are really only two verses (with the second being but a partial). I added a bridge and a third verse, plus a full drum and bass line arrangement. I never recorded vocals because the vocal line definitely requires a female voice. The lyrics, as they’re heard in the movie, appear below.
Incidentally, if you visit Caitlin Mathews’ website, you won’t find “Song of the Exile” on any of her CDs. From what I understand, Disney snapped up the rights to this song (which is why I’m offering it as a free download) and locked them up somewhere in the Disney vault.
“Song of the Exile” is also variously called “We Will Go Home,” “We Will Go Home (Over the Mountain)” and “Vanora’s Song.”
lyrics
Land of bear and land of eagle
Land that gave us birth and blessing
Land that calls us ever homeward.
We will go home across the mountains
We will go home, we will go home
We will go home across the mountains
We will go home singing our song
We will go home across the mountains
Hear our singing, hear our longing
We will go home across the mountains…
