Like “The Wheel,” “Feeling Better” is another pop song that was supposed to have lyrics, but I got sidetracked somewhere along the way. Compositionally, I labored quite a bit over this one. I wanted to write something that sounded like a Beatles composition. In particular, I wanted to create that unique jangle sound so evident and seemingly simple in Beatles songs yet so hard to pinpoint or write. It would be years before a jazz-guitarist friend would tell me the secret. Purely on my own here, I think I got kind of close, although if I could record “Feeling Better” again, I’d increase the tempo.
