My parents used to own a wooden piano music box. As a kid, I loved winding and watching the clockwork. A small brass drum set with pins would slowly revolve to pluck a row of steel tines and play “Irish Lullaby,” an old folk tune and the first song for which I developed true affection. I thought the piece would be a nice closer.
I reproduced the song from memory. The music box version was simply a melody. I wrote a gentle bass line for depth, and added subtle string accompaniment, plus brushes and hats for texture.
Instrumentation: piano strings, pluck bass, brushes and hats, strings.
In Adrian Snood’s songs, soulful vocals and slow-moving alt-pop swirl together to create something distinctly moving. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 1, 2023
