“The Wheel” is a pop song that was supposed to have lyrics, but during the writing of “Russia,” I got sidetracked somewhere along the line and never wrote them. Even so, “The Wheel” is one of my favorite songs. Right after mastering down an initial version of it, I gave a copy to my then-twelve-year-old son. One afternoon, he called me excitedly from home, holding up the phone while asking, “Do you recognize this?” I couldn’t make out what was playing, and after I inquired, he said, “It’s your song!” He’d cued it up on the stereo after school and he’d called to tell me that he and his friends were dancing to it in the living room. It was one of the happiest moments of my life—one that made the complete writing of “Russia” worthwhile.
In Adrian Snood’s songs, soulful vocals and slow-moving alt-pop swirl together to create something distinctly moving. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 1, 2023
